About

Hi, I'm Julia Darcey. I grew up in Denver, CO, where I spent most of my younger years doing one of four things: 1) Thinking up stories, 2) Playing video games, 3) Worrying about the environment, 4) Talking on the phone. Thrilling, I know!

Denver was nice but it wasn't cold enough, so I went to school in central New York, where I learned the true meaning of rural, among other things. I studied ecology and tried (unsuccessfully) to research the impacts of climate change on plant physiology while finishing my first novel about a princess locked in the tallest tower of a dragon's castle (no, I'm not kidding).

After a year of drinking and saving sea turtles in D.C., I went to Boston to get my masters in science journalism, which I figured was the only way to salvage my aborted passions for science and writing. In lovely old Boston I got a starcrossed crush and a chill down my spine that eventually became Petrified, my second book.

Petrified is currently on sub via the super Vickie Motter of Andrea Hurst Literary Managment. One day Vickie said, "Julia, start a blog." So here I am!

I live in San Francisco with my funny boyfriend, where I work on wildlife conservation and wish endlessly for snow. It's pretty great. You can email me at julia.darcey AT gmail.com.

Writing! Fuck yeah!
