Hello! It's Road Trip Wednesday again, I have decided to participate because there are few enough posts in my brain as it is and I might as well make them stretch. Plus YA Highway is fun!
ANYWAY. RTDubs is a 'Blog Carnival.' The YA Highway chicas post a question, and wonderful writers all across the fairy blogosphere answer it. You can see all the links to responses HERE. It's just like a carnival! YAY! But with no funnel cake. NOOOO.
This Week’s Topic: Your house is on fire and you can only grab FIVE things before you flee. What are they?
1. Mangoes - I just bought these really good mangoes, and I'm super excited about eating them. So they get first priority if the apartment burns down today.
2. Our snake, Victoria - Not that she'd mind fire. In fact, she routinely curls up around BURNING WHITE HOT LIGHT BULBS, so she'd probably be like, "yes, flames, yessssss."
3. Lappy - Considering 30-40% of my life hours of the last two years have been sunk into Ms. Laptop, it's now more important to me than several of my toes. Not the big toes, of course.
4. Jade, the plant - I got Jade at my best friend's father's funeral, and she grew from a tiny sprig into a huge flowering tree. She has become a symbol of the endless tug of war between life and death. Also smells nice.
5. Twitter - Will twitter be safe after the fire? Okay, thank goodness. All right then...I would save...my bridesmaids dress for the wedding I'm going to in July. Those things aren't cheap, yo.
Everyone's post says laptop! It's hilarious. Clearly writers are horrible about backing up their work. (Totally guilty of that over here.) And too poor to afford new laptops (also guilty).
I love how your plant has a name. They don't last long enough at my house to have a name. And I took a snake too - except mine is a purple stuffed one (it's really my daughter's)
ReplyDeleteGuilty as charged. Bad at backing up AND low on money. I love Jade The Plant, that's such a beautiful idea. And, like you said, smells nice.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder to back up. :) Though, my back-up is next to my laptop (right on the way out the door, lucky me!) so, I'm sure I'd grab both. Okay, there are three. I'd grab three. Oh, and my kids.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Alison on the plants.
Back up your work, for the love of God! I lost a month's worth of writing back in April and it nearly caused a psychic break. Of course I'm too cheap to buy a hard drive, but now I send each day's work to a dummy email account.
ReplyDeleteMangoes. Hehe. I love that those were your #1. I back up my work, but I'd still take my laptop. I'm convinced that the one time there's a glitch in my backup will be when my laptop burns in a fire.
ReplyDeleteWow, you are all so back-up responsible. I am very impressed. You have totally inspired me to stop tempting fate by having 13 different versions of my MS saved on my janky laptop with no backup. Especially since I routinely throw my laptop off the bed, drop it, spill mango juice on it, etc.
ReplyDeleteI have a 72 hour preparedness kit. It has everything I need (and my pet needs) to get buy on for three days if I had to flee the house for any reason. Aside from clothes and toiletries, I have photocopies of all the credit cards in my purse and insurance documents.
ReplyDeleteIt's peace of mind in an over-sized suitcase I picked up at a thrift store. But yes, I'd still grab my laptop if the house started burning.
I love your list, and agree that it's awesome how every writer's list has laptop on it! :D
ReplyDeleteOh, so practical. Love that, and love that mangos are FIRST on your list! :)
ReplyDeleteGood list, very utilitarian! LOL I've enjoyed reading these today, even though they've made me check the batteries in all of my smoke detectors a few times:)
ReplyDeleteYou had me at mangoes.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THAT YOU HAVE A SNAKE. My brother had one, and I think they're awesome. In fact, my MC in my new WIP has a pet snake. It's my theory that only really super-duperly cool people have snakes. :)
ReplyDeleteMe: Totally laptop, first. Actually, kid would be first. Then laptop. Spouse can fend for himself.
